Circulating Love

Enlighted provided consulting services for this illuminated version of the human circulatory system. The outfit was designed by artist Mark Hansen, and worn as a performance art piece at Burning Man in 2000 and 2001.
A hooded bodysuit is covered with two hundred super-bright red LEDs, aimed sideways into assemblies of silicone tubes and side-emitting fiber optics that represent blood vessels. The lights are animated to simulate a beating heart and pulsating blood vessels.
Lighting designer and artist Ingo Maurer happened to see this costume in action, and was so impressed that he asked if he could use a time-lapse photo of it to promote one of his shows. This led to an inspring multi-year collaboration with Mr. Maurer.
