Pirate Costumes

In 2012, we added lights to a pirate coat and hat, accidentally creating a new genre of apparel: pirate clubwear!

All of the gold trim on the coat was outlined with yellow EL wire, and the button at the end of each stripe was removed and replaced with a color-changing RGB LED. The LED and EL portions of the coat are operated by separate battery packs, and can be turned on independently or together.

The brim of the hat is illuminated by a line of closely-spaced color-changing LEDs. A strip of white marabou feathers is mounted on top of the lights, acting as a diffuser and also helping to conceal the wires.

Later, we lit up a matching woman's pirate coat and hat with the same style of lighting.
