Woven Scarf with LEDs

For this project, a client sent us a large striped scarf made from a multi-colored fabric with a loose weave, and requested that we light it up with RGB LEDs. The fabric allowed light to pass through, so we folded the scarf in half lengthwise, and mounted 100 flat RGB pixels between these two layers, facing outward. A small pocket was added near the center to hold the battery pack.

The scarf is flexible and durable enough to be tied around the neck, or it can be worn in a variety of other traditional scarf positions and shapes.

The lights are animated in a series of flashing patterns, accessed with manual switches at one of the lower corners of the scarf.

The clip below demonstrates the animated effects, in a dark room.  Some of the patterns are intended to be slow and subtle, while others involve faster and brighter changes.
