RuPaul - Glow Gala
Enlighted was commissioned to create this dress in collaboration with a team of Madame Tussaud's stylists, sculptors, and designers. We were inspired by an iconic Bob Mackie original that RuPaul first wore in 1996 at the VH1 Fashion Awards. In our version we have added RGB LED pixels throughout the dress and wings.
The lighting is mounted on the base layers of the dress and wings, and covered with layers of silver and white mini sequin fabric that conceal the wiring while allowing light to pass through.
Using a DMX interface, the dress and wings are iluminated in a variety of animated patterns and effects which are synchronized with other elements of a multimedia performance throughout the room.
This dress is part of a series of illuminated garments that we created for the new Glow Gala room at Madame Tussaud's New York. You can read an overview for the project in our blog entry, or see the following pages for details on the other dresses we made for the wax figures of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Priyanka Chopra, and Rihanna.
