Priyanka Chopra - Glow Gala

Enlighted was commissioned to create this dress in collaboration with a team of Madame Tussaud's stylists, sculptors, and designers. We were inspired by a dress worn by Priyanka Chopra at the 2019 Met Gala. In our version we have substituted multicolored feathers for the shredded tulle decoration, and we've added RGB LED pixels throughout the dress and cape. The base dress was fabricated by Amanda Williams, and we installed the lighting.

The LEDs are mounted in vertical stripes on the skirt and cape, and covered with lines of feathers the create a color gradient from white to yellow, pink, orange, fuchsia, and burgundy. The feathers act as a diffusing layer for the lighting, while also concealing the wiring.

On the bodice, RGB LED pixels have been embedded in the lattice work and covered with a layer of silver braided trim, with LED lenses poking through gaps in the braids. The crown is decorated with another type of RGB LED pixel, which is wrapped around a series of metal rods soldered to an oval base.

Using a DMX interface, the entire costume is illuminated in a variety of animated patterns and effects which are synchronized with other elements of a multimedia performance throughout the room. The bodice and crown are generally lit up in white twinkling patterns, while the lights in the cape and skirt mimic the color gradient in the feathers.

This dress is part of a series of illuminated garments that we created for the new Glow Gala room at Madame Tussaud's New York. You can read an overview for the project in our blog entry, or see the following pages for details on the dresses we made for the wax figures of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, RuPaul, and Rihanna.
